Nazakat-the Awadh's Chikan is situated pretty close to the railway station in Gomti Nagar. If you are coming off a train or just passing through the station area, we are right there. The shop focuses on Chikan work, which is something we take seriously because it’s part of the local fabric here. Being near the station means we see a lot of different faces every day. Some people are just passing through and others live nearby and stop in regularly. The noise of the trains is something you just stop hearing after a while. We spend a lot of our time looking over the delicate thread work on the fabric. It takes a lot of patience to get the details right. The shop isn't some big corporate showroom; it's a place where you can see the work up close. We have piles of clothes and fabric around, and we try to keep things sorted, but it's a working shop so it looks like people actually work here. Sometimes the light in the afternoon hits the front window just right and you can see all the patterns clearly. We open the doors in the morning and wait for the first customers to arrive after the early trains get in. It is a steady way to spend the day, working with the cloth and talking to whoever comes in looking for something traditional from this area. We just do our work.
