Chobimura Organic Farmer Producer Company Limited

Up here in Kormacharra, near Amarpur, a bunch of us got together to form Chobimura Organic Farmer Producer Company Limited. Our central point is at Sachindra Reang’s house. We aren't experts in business, but we know our way around a farm. Most of the people involved have been farming since they were kids. We chose to go organic because it felt like the right thing to do for the land here. It takes a lot more effort than the old way of doing things, but we don't mind the extra sweat. We spend our mornings in the fields and our evenings talking about how to improve the harvest. Amarpur is a beautiful place, and we want to keep the soil healthy for the next generation. We don't have a big staff, just the farmers themselves and a few family members who help with the paperwork. It’s a practical way of living. We deal with the bugs and the heat every day. Sometimes we have meetings to figure out where to sell our crops so we can get a fair price. We aren't looking for awards or anything like that. We just want to keep our families fed and provide good food for the local markets. If you’re passing through Kormacharra, you’ll likely see us out there working. We stay busy year-round and try to keep things moving as best as we can.
