Barekuri Organic Farmers And Tea

We operate out of Joygukhowa Gaon, which is near Post Borgaon. Our main spot is actually at Girish Chutia’s house, specifically House Number 12. We are a group of farmers from the Barekuri area who decided to work together. We mostly focus on tea and other organic crops. It is not a big corporate office. It’s just a village house where we meet to talk about the harvest and the prices. Most of us have been farming this land since we were kids. We know the soil and we know when the rain is going to come. The work is hard and it’s mostly done by hand. We don't have fancy tractors or big machines. It is a community effort, really. Sometimes the younger guys help with the heavy bags and the older ones give advice. Getting to the main road can be a bit of a problem when the rain turns the paths to mud. We don't have a marketing team or a website. We just grow our tea and hope it sells well. Some years are better than others, depending on the weather. We are proud of our village and the work we do here. It is just a group of local people trying to make a living from organic farming. We don't try to make it sound like more than it is. It’s just honest work in the fields of Assam and making sure the tea is packed right.
