Axom Life Foundation

Axom Life Foundation is run from Syeda Nurjahan Khatoon’s place in Santipur, Golaghat. It’s a nice enough spot in Assam, though it gets very wet during the rainy season. We’re right here in the 785621 area code. We don't have a big professional office with glass walls or anything like that. We mostly just sit in the main room and talk about what needs to be done. It’s very informal, and we like it that way. We know most of the people who live in Santipur because we’ve been here so long. When we started the foundation, we didn't really have a big plan or a fancy document. We just knew we wanted to help out with some local stuff. We spend a lot of time walking around the town and talking to people at the market. It’s a good way to find out what’s actually going on in people's lives. Sometimes we have tea and snacks while we work, and the neighbors will drop by just to say hello. We don't have a lot of fancy equipment, just our phones and some notebooks that are falling apart. The gate to the house has a bit of a squeak that we still haven't fixed. It’s a small operation, and we like it that way because it keeps us close to the people we’re helping. We aren't trying to be some big national group. We’re pretty much just happy to do our part right here in Golaghat.
