Athani Sugars Ltd is located at 87-1-45 in Vishnuanna Nagar, which is near Post Navalihal in Kempwad. It is a bit of a drive to get out here, but this is where all the actual work happens. Even though the name sounds big, we run things more like a local outfit. There is a lot of machinery and it gets very noisy when the crushing season is in full swing. We have people working here from all the surrounding villages. It isn't a quiet or clean job. The whole area smells like crushed cane for months at a time. We have a small office building right by the main gate where we handle the weigh-ins and the bills. We don't have any glossy marketing materials or a polished corporate image. We just focus on producing sugar and getting it out to the markets. The roads around Navalihal can get pretty rough when the heavy tractors are moving back and forth. We spend a lot of our time just doing maintenance on the equipment so nothing breaks down. It is a very practical place to work. We don't care much for titles or big speeches. Everyone here knows what their job is and they just do it. The sun is hot on the metal roofs, but we keep the water cold and keep moving until the work is finished.
