Urpodjyoti Foundation

We are over in Balbala, right near the Agia police station area. The foundation is officially called Urpodjyoti Foundation. We run things out of Nazamul Haque’s place here in Kalapani. Goalpara is a quiet district for the most part, and life in Balbala follows that same slow rhythm. Our zip code is 783120. It isn't a fancy office with glass walls or anything like that. It is just a simple building where we gather to get our work done. Most of us grew up around here, so we know the people and the land pretty well. We don't spend money on big signs or advertisements. Word of mouth works just fine in a place like this. Sometimes the electricity goes out during the rainy season, so we just sit on the porch and wait for it to come back. We drink a lot of tea and talk about what needs to be done for the day. It’s not corporate work; it’s just local people helping out where they can. We handle our paperwork and meet with the villagers when they have something to share. We don't have a mission statement on the wall. We just show up every morning and do the best we can with what we have. If you are looking for us, just head towards the post office in Balbala and ask for Nazamul’s house. People will point you in the right direction. It is a humble setup, but it works for us.
