Talukdar Chira & Rice Mill

Our mill, Talukdar Chira & Rice Mill, is out in Village Sariah Tali. We are quite close to the Irrigation Office, which is a good landmark if you are trying to find us. This is Nalbari district, and things move a bit slower out here than they do in the big cities. We make both rice and chira here. Making chira is a bit different and takes some extra steps, which keeps us on our toes. The village life is good, but the roads can get pretty muddy when the monsoon hits. Sometimes the trucks can't even get all the way to our gate. We have a small shed where we store the bags, and it is usually overflowing. My family lives not too far away, so we are always back and forth. We don't have a website or anything like that, we just talk to people face to face. The mill itself makes a rhythmic thumping sound that you can hear from the end of the lane. It is how the neighbors know we are working. We have a few old wooden benches outside where people sit and wait while we finish their batches. It is a lot of manual labor, hauling the sacks and watching the machines. We aren't trying to change the world, just making sure the local folks have their rice ready for the kitchen. It is honest work and it fills the day.
