Our office is based in a house called Rukmini Smriti, which is House No 173/5 in the Shantinagar area of Ponda, Goa. It’s a bit different from your usual office building since it’s in a residential neighborhood. Hrishikesh P. Dharvatker and the rest of the team work from here, and it has a very home-like feel to it. You won't find any shiny glass walls or elevators here. Instead, there’s a small garden out front and the sound of the neighborhood in the background. V.S. Dempo & Co Pvt Ltd has a long history, but our daily routine is pretty simple. We spend a lot of time on the phone and dealing with the various details of our business. Because we are in Ponda, things move a little slower than they do in the coastal tourist areas, and we like that. It gives us time to actually think about what we are doing. The office inside the house is a bit cramped with all the desks and computers, but it’s comfortable enough. We don’t really do the whole corporate image thing. We just talk to people like they are our neighbors, because often they are. It’s a practical way to run a company, and it’s served us well over the years. We take our tea breaks seriously and try not to let the work get too overwhelming. It’s just a regular Goan business doing its thing every day.
