Our shop is right out on the Jetpur to Junagadh Highway. It is easy to find because you can usually hear the sound of metal hitting metal or the hiss of a welding torch from the road. We do fabrication and engineering work, which basically means we take pieces of iron and steel and turn them into something useful. Sometimes it’s a gate for a house, other times it’s a frame for a machine. The sun gets really hot out here on the highway, and the heat from the forge makes it even warmer inside the shed. We wear our heavy gloves and masks even when we’re sweating. There are piles of scrap metal in the back and stacks of new pipes in the front. We aren't big on talking much; we just get the measurements right and start cutting. It’s loud, dirty work, and our hands are always stained with grease or rust. We’ve been here for a long time, watching the trucks go by on the way to Junagadh. Occasionally someone stops because they have a broken trailer or need a quick weld on a piece of farm equipment. We just clear a space on the workbench and get to it. It’s not a polished business with a front desk. It’s just a workshop where we build stuff that lasts. We just make sure things are sturdy so they don't break when someone is using them.
