This branch of the Larsen Toubro Ltd ECC division is located in the village of Kathar, out in the Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh. It’s a very different vibe from the big city offices most people imagine. We are surrounded by fields and open spaces, which is actually quite nice for a change of pace. The office itself is a simple structure we set up to manage the work in this specific region. It’s not fancy at all. We have the basics like some sturdy tables, plastic chairs, and a couple of computers that sometimes struggle when the local internet connection gets spotty. Anjani Kumar Pandey is a name you’ll hear a lot around here since he’s been a key part of this site from the start. Power cuts are something we deal with fairly often, so we have a generator that kicks in, though it’s quite noisy and smells like diesel. Most of the people working here are from the nearby villages or stay in local housing. We start our day very early, usually before the sun gets too high and the heat becomes a real problem for everyone. There’s a lot of mud when it rains, and the road to the post office can get a bit tricky for the smaller cars. We don’t have any corporate branding or big signs out front. It’s just a functional place where we track the progress of the local construction projects. It’s hard work, but the atmosphere is friendly.
