Subash Kirana Store

Our shop, Subash Kirana Store, is right in the middle of Ramgarh Bazar on Hapur Road. We are very close to the Babu Sant Prasad Rai Inter College, so we see a lot of students coming in for snacks or pens. The store is quite small and we have shelves stacked right up to the ceiling. It can be hard to find things sometimes if you don't know where to look. We sell everything from flour and lentils to soap and matches. My brother and I run the place most days. We start early to catch the people on their way to work. It gets very crowded in the evenings when everyone is coming home and needs things for dinner. We have a small counter where we do all the weighing and billing by hand. There isn't much room to stand inside when there are more than three customers. We have a few old fans that keep the air moving, but it still gets quite stuffy in the summer. We don't have any fancy posters or big lights. People come to us because we have been here for years and they trust us. We know which brand of tea each neighbor likes and who prefers which type of rice. It’s a busy life but we enjoy being part of the market. There is always some news or gossip to hear from the people who stop by for their daily groceries.
