Our shop is at No. 30/2 on Loni Road, right in the Mohan Nagar area. It is a big space because fabric takes up a lot of room once you start getting the rolls in. We deal with all kinds of textiles, from the heavy stuff to the lighter materials people use for clothes. The floor is usually covered in little threads and scraps by the end of the day, no matter how much we sweep it. Working on Loni Road means there is always trucks and cars passing by, so it stays pretty loud near the front entrance. We spend most of our time measuring out lengths and cutting pieces for customers who come in. Sometimes we get big orders that take up all our table space for days. It is a family-style environment here, where everyone knows their job and just gets on with it. We do not use any high-tech systems for keeping track of the cloth, just a notebook and some tags. The air always smells a bit like dye and cotton, which is something you just stop noticing after a few weeks. We have been at this Mohan Nagar spot for quite a while now, and the neighbors know us pretty well. It is hard work on the back and shoulders, lifting those heavy bolts of fabric, but we are used to it. We just focus on getting the measurements right so nobody goes home with the wrong size.
