Our hospital in Ghaziabad is located right near the old bus stand. Because of the location, we see a whole lot of foot traffic every single day. People are always coming and going from the buses, and it makes this part of town very lively, if a bit dusty and noisy. The building is an older one, but it’s sturdy and serves us well. We’ve got several floors where different things happen. The ground floor is usually where the most action is, with people checking in and out. Up the stairs, it’s a bit quieter where the patient rooms are. We don’t have any of those fancy modern lounges you see on TV. Our waiting area has simple benches and a TV that’s usually playing the news. The doctors and nurses here are used to the fast pace of being near the bus stand. We get people from all over who just happen to be passing through, as well as our regular locals who have been coming to us for decades. It feels like a real part of the old city. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to switch over to the generator, which makes a bit of a rumble, but we just keep working through it. We focus on getting people fixed up and back on their way. It’s a practical, no-nonsense kind of place where the work never really stops.
