Rastogi Provision Store

Our store is in Vijay Nagar, over at Chandar Nagar, B-6. It’s a neighborhood grocery shop, nothing more. We open early so people can get their milk and bread before work. The shelves are packed with everything from bags of lentils to soap and spices. It smells like a mix of open grain and laundry detergent inside. I know most of the people who come in by their first names because they live just a few houses away. Sometimes kids come in with a few coins for candies, and we have to help them choose. We use a digital scale now, which is faster than the old ones we had. B-6 is a quiet enough area, but the shop stays busy during the evening when everyone is getting stuff for dinner. We don't have fancy lighting or aisles; you just ask for what you need or grab it from the shelf if it’s within reach. It’s a lot of standing around and lifting heavy sacks of flour or sugar. My back hurts a bit by the time we pull the shutters down at night. We’ve been serving this part of Chandar Nagar for a long time. It’s just a simple life running a provision store. We keep the registers going and make sure the stock doesn't run out before the next delivery comes in. It's a steady way to live and we know our neighbors well. We just try to keep the staples available for everyone nearby.
