It’s a bit of a strange spot for a power company, being near the educational offices, but it works for us. We’ve been operating here since around 1994, so we are part of the scenery by now. The office is pretty standard, nothing that would win any design awards. We just have the usual desks, some old cupboards for files, and a lot of maps on the walls. Working in UP has its challenges, especially with the logistics of moving equipment around. The roads can be crowded, and things don't always happen as fast as we’d like. We don't have a big corporate mission statement or anything like that. We just show up, see what the day's tasks are, and try to get through them without too many headaches. The staff is small, and we mostly look after the local transmission needs. People sometimes get confused by the address because of the Board of Higher Education being right there, but once they find the right gate, it’s fine. It’s a practical, no-frills kind of place. We don't spend money on fancy signs or advertising. We just focus on the work at hand and making sure the lines are handled correctly. It is just a normal job for us, and we keep things simple and honest.
