Shop No. 1 on G.T. Road near Rakesh Marg is where we spend our days. It is a very busy spot right by the main road where all the trucks and buses go by. Because of that, there is always a bit of noise and dust in the air. Inside the shop, we try to keep things a bit quieter for the eye tests. We have the usual chairs for people to wait in and a big chart on the wall with all the letters. We see a lot of people who are having trouble seeing clearly because they work long hours or the road dust bothers them. We spend a lot of time helping people pick out frames that actually fit their face and don't slide off. It involves a lot of checking different lenses and asking people if the view is better or worse. We have all kinds of glasses, from the simple plastic ones to the ones made of metal. Sometimes the testing equipment needs a bit of a kick to stay in line. It is a small shop, so it gets crowded quickly if more than two people come in at the same time. We usually have a small radio playing in the background to help cover the sound of the traffic outside. Most people come in because they broke their old pair or they can’t read the mail anymore. We just do the exams and get the lenses right.
