Down at A 64 Shyam Park Extention in Sahibabad, you’ll find us running Fashion Footwear India. It’s a straightforward shop in a busy part of the extension. We spend a lot of time unboxing new arrivals and figuring out where to put them because the shop isn't exactly a warehouse. There’s always a bit of dust on the lower shelves since they’re so close to the floor. We carry a lot of school shoes and heavy-duty boots for the workers nearby. It’s the kind of place where people come when their old shoes finally fall apart. We aren't big on fancy decorations; we just use the original boxes to display everything. Sometimes the pen we use for the receipts runs out of ink in the middle of a sale, and we have to scramble to find another one. The neighborhood is loud, especially in the evenings when everyone is coming home from work. We usually have the radio playing some local station in the background to drown out the traffic noise. The lighting isn't the brightest, so people often take a shoe to the doorway to see the true color in the sunlight. We’ve been here a while and know most of the shopkeepers on this block. We swap stories and tea during the slow hours. It’s just a normal way to earn a living, making sure people have something decent on their feet for their daily commute.
