We are over at number 81 in the Kanhaiyalal Market, right near Chopla Mandir. It gets pretty crowded around here, especially in the mornings when the temple bells start. My family has been sitting in this shop for quite some time now. Most days it’s just us showing gold chains or silver rings to people who walk in from the market. We keep the glass cases clean every morning before the sun gets too high. Sometimes people come in just to fix a broken clasp or resize a ring they’ve had for twenty years. We sit on the floor cushions mostly. The fan makes a bit of noise but it keeps the air moving. It’s a small space but we have managed to fit everything we need inside. You can hear the tea seller calling out every hour. It is a loud area with all the rickshaws outside, but once you step inside, it’s a bit quieter. We don't have fancy lights, just enough to see the shine on the metal. Dealing with the same families for years is how it goes here. One day it’s a wedding set and the next day it’s just a pair of small earrings for a kid. We keep our ledgers in a pile on the side desk. The market closes late, so we are usually here until the lights on the street come on. It is just a regular shop doing regular work for the neighborhood and we like it that way.
