Chaudhary Railing Steel Craft is over in Kranti Nagar, near the Om Dharam Kanta on the Hapur More Meerut Road. It’s a loud place because we are always cutting or welding steel. You can hear the grinding machines from the street. We make all kinds of railings for balconies and stairs. We also do some gate work if someone asks. The floor is covered in metal shavings and bits of rod. We use those heavy masks for welding, and the light is very bright. It gets quite hot in the summer with the torches going. My cousins work here with me. We don't have a catalogue with photos. We just show people pieces we’ve already made or draw something on a piece of cardboard to show how it will look. Most of our customers are locals building their own homes. They want something that won't rust and looks decent. We spend a lot of time measuring and then cutting everything to the exact inch. If you’re off by a little, the whole railing won't fit. Meerut Road is always busy, so we have to be careful when we are moving long steel pipes around. We don't have a fancy office, just a wooden desk in the corner where we keep the tape measures and the chalk. It’s hard work, but we take pride in a clean weld.
