Working inside EDM Mall in Kaushambi is a different kind of busy. We are at S 19-20, which is a decent-sized space, but it feels smaller when the weekend crowd hits. The air conditioning is usually too cold in the mornings and then doesn't seem to keep up once the mall fills with people. We spend a lot of our time just refolding the same piles of clothes over and over again. People pick things up, look at them, and then just drop them wherever. It’s frustrating, but it’s the job. The lighting is bright, which makes everything look okay, even when we’re feeling tired. We have a small back room for breaks, but it’s mostly filled with extra hangers and plastic bags. Sometimes we stand near the front just to watch people walking by the glass. You see all sorts of folks in Kaushambi. Some are just killing time before a movie, while others are actually looking for something specific. We don't do much talking unless someone asks a question. It’s mostly about keeping the racks straight and making sure the till has enough change. The floor gets scuffed up pretty fast, so someone is always roaming around with a mop when it’s quiet. It’s a routine that doesn't change much from Monday to Sunday. We just keep the doors open and wait for the mall music to start every morning.
