Balaji Kerana Store

Maliwara is famous for its narrow lanes and our store is right there on Basant Road at 159/1. Balaji Kerana Store has been a part of this street for quite some time. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is the smell of open sacks of pulses, spices, and sugar. It is a very sensory place to work. We spend our days weighing out flour or hunting for a specific brand of soap a customer wants. The shelves go all the way up to the ceiling and we use an old wooden ladder to reach the stuff at the top. It is always a bit of a squeeze when the morning rush starts and everyone wants their groceries at the same time. We don't use any fancy computers for our inventory; it's mostly written down in big ledgers or just kept in our heads. The floor is made of old stone that has worn smooth over the years from all the feet walking over it. We deal with the same wholesalers every week and sometimes we argue about the price of oil or rice. It is just the way things are done here. There is no air conditioning, just the breeze from the street if we are lucky. We are just a local grocery spot where you can get what you need for your kitchen without any fuss.
