If you head down G.T Road toward the Old Truck Union, you will find us. We are right in the thick of things where all the big vehicles move through. Dealing with batteries in a place like this means we see a lot of heavy-duty stuff. It is a gritty area, and our shop fits right in. We do not have any fancy tiled floors or uniform shirts. We wear what is comfortable for lifting heavy lead blocks and dealing with acid. The walls are a bit stained and the floor has seen better days, but the work gets done. Most of our day is spent testing charges and swapping out old units for new ones. It is a lot of physical labor. When the trucks pull up near the union, the drivers often come over to get their electricals checked. We have been at this spot for years, so the regulars know us by name. We do not do a lot of talking unless it is about the job. It is usually hot and the smell of metal is always in the air. We keep a small stool for customers to sit on if they have to wait, but usually, they just stand and watch us work. It is a simple, honest way to make a living. We open early because that is when the drivers are moving, and we stay until the last job is wrapped up for the night. It is hard work.
