We are right in the heart of the Gaya Market at Maranpur Chowk in Tikari. Our shop is very close to the SBI ATM, which is a busy spot all day long. The market is always full of people and noise, especially on the weekends. We sell all kinds of things for the house and the kitchen. The shop is quite small, so we have to be very clever about how we stack the boxes. Sometimes the piles go all the way to the ceiling and I have to use a ladder just to get something down for a customer. Me and my cousin run the place. We’ve been here for several years. It gets very dusty with all the people walking past and the rickshaws outside. We don't have a fancy display or a big sign. People just know we are here because we’ve been part of the market for so long. Sometimes we stay open late if there are still people walking around. The hardest part is when the new stock arrives and we have to carry it all from the main road through the crowds. It’s a lot of physical work and the heat in Gaya can be really intense. But we have our regulars who come in for a chat and to buy their supplies. We don't use any modern marketing. We just try to be fair and keep the shelves full of what people want.
