Shatrughan Kirana Store

Out in Village Gondi, life moves a bit slower and that is where Shatrughan Kirana Store is located. We are under Post Phadara and the Thana Paraiya is the closest police station. It’s a rural area, so our shop is a bit of a gathering point for the farmers in the district. We keep everything they might need so they don’t have to travel all the way into the bigger town. There are big sacks of grain sitting on the floor and bundles of things hanging from the rafters. The building is old and made of brick. It stays a bit dark inside even during the day, so we keep a couple of light bulbs going. We don't have a computer or anything like that. I write everything down in a thick ledger book with a blue pen. Sometimes the kids come in after school for some sweets and they make a lot of noise. It’s a good kind of noise though. In the monsoon, the road to Gondi gets difficult, so we have to make sure we stock up on everything before the rains start. We don't really have set closing times. If someone knocks on the door late because they ran out of kerosene, we usually open up for them. It’s just how you live in a village like this. We are part of the community here and we know everyone around Gondi and Phadara.
