New Dharti Chara Kendra

Over at Kirani Ghat, you will find New Dharti Chara Kendra. We handle a lot of cattle feed and fodder, or what everyone here calls chara. The shop is usually busy very early in the morning when the milkmen and farmers come by to get food for their buffaloes and cows. The smell of dry grass and grain is very strong as soon as you walk in. We have big piles of different types of feed, and it can get quite dusty when we are moving the sacks around. Kirani Ghat is a busy spot, and there is always someone passing by with an ox cart or a small truck. We don't have any computers here; everything is done by hand. We spend the day weighing out portions and tying up bundles. It’s heavy work, and our backs usually ache by the time we close up. The floor is just concrete, and it's covered in bits of straw and husks most of the time. We don't try to keep it perfectly clean because it's impossible with all the movement. Sometimes we sit outside on a plastic chair and watch the traffic go by while we wait for the next customer. It’s a basic business. People come here because they know we have what their animals need to eat. We don't have any fancy posters on the walls, just a calendar and maybe a picture of a god for good luck. It's just a regular part of life here at the ghat.
