Sachit Foundation

Sachit Foundation is located over in Kulesra, at Somwati Devi’s house. The area is quite busy these days with all the new houses going up. Our space is just a couple of rooms that we’ve turned into an office. There’s a big neem tree right outside the front door that gives us some shade in the afternoons. We spend a lot of time sitting on the plastic chairs under that tree when it’s too hot inside. Somwati is usually around, making sure things are tidy. We have a few old computers, but they take forever to start up. Most of our records are in those big registers with the red covers. The street outside is narrow, so it's better to walk than drive. We’ve got a small sign painted on the wall, but it’s starting to fade from the sun. It’s just a handful of us working here. We don't have fancy titles or uniforms. We just wear what we have and get to work. The neighborhood kids sometimes play cricket right in front of the gate. It gets a bit loud, but we don’t mind. Sometimes the water pump acts up, and we have to fix it before we can make tea. It’s just a normal day-to-day routine for us. We’ve been in Kulesra for a while.
