Government Veterinary Hospital

Our hospital is tucked away near the Muradnagar Block office, and it is a place where you will mostly see people from the nearby farms. Since we are a government veterinary hospital, we spend most of our time dealing with cows, buffaloes, and the occasional goat. The building is a simple one, and the yard outside is usually dusty because of all the traffic coming off the main road in Muradnagar. We have got some basic rooms for checkups and a place to keep the medicines locked up. It gets quite hot in the afternoons, and the shade under the eaves is where most people wait with their animals. You can hear the sounds of the block office nearby and the tractors rumbling past all day long. The walls inside are painted a pale color that has faded over the years, and there are posters about animal health tacked up everywhere. We do not have a fancy waiting room with magazines; people just stand around and talk to each other while they wait for their turn. It is a practical kind of place. Most of the staff has been here long enough to know the local farmers by name. We see a lot of the same faces every season. It is just how things work in this part of Muradnagar. We keep the gate open and try to handle whatever walks or gets carried through it. It is honest work and there is always plenty of it to do.
