Our place is at Plot No. 547/902 on Vardavari Street in Berhampur. Being in Ganjam, the weather is usually pretty warm, so the distillery stays quite hot during the shift. We have these big tanks and a lot of piping that goes through the main hall. It is a practical building, nothing too special to look at from the outside. We spend most of our hours watching the gauges and making sure everything is flowing like it should. The floors are often a bit damp from washing down the equipment every day. We have a small area for the paperwork near the front entrance, but most of the action happens in the back where the vats are kept. Vardavari Street can be quiet in the mornings, but by midday, there are usually people moving about. We have a few workers who have been here since we first opened the doors. The smell of the process is something you get used to after a week or two, but visitors always notice it right away. We use old wooden desks in the office area and have a few calendars pinned to the wall to keep track of the batches. It is steady work that requires a lot of patience. Sometimes the power cuts out and we have to wait for the generator to kick in so we don't lose time. It is just a regular local business doing what we know how to do on this side of town.
