Bachpan School

You can find us on 1st Lane in the Bijipur area of Berhampur. Bachpan School is a bit of a lively place because we have a lot of younger children running around. The building is painted in bright colors, though the sun has faded them a little over time. We have a small play area with a slide and a few swings, which is where the kids spend most of their favorite time. It is not a very formal environment here. We want the children to feel comfortable, so the rooms are filled with drawings they have made and some old toys. The teachers are mostly women from the neighborhood who are good with kids. We don't really follow a very strict or rigid corporate style. If a child is crying, we just pick them up and try to distract them with a story. It is a lot of hard work keeping up with the energy of the little ones, but we manage. The lane outside is usually quiet, which is nice for a school. We have a small desk at the entrance where we keep track of who comes in and out. Most of the parents are our friends or neighbors, so there is a lot of trust. We just focus on getting through the daily activities, like singing songs and doing some basic writing. It is a simple, local school for the families around here.
