Sikkim University

We are located up at the 6th Mile in Samdur near the Tadong post office area. It is a bit of a climb to get up here from the main town but the air is much fresher. This is where the university campus is set up. It is not like those big city campuses with tall buildings. Instead it is spread out across the hillsides. You will always see students walking between the different buildings with their books and bags. They often sit on the stone walls to talk between their classes. The weather up here changes very quickly. It might be sunny one minute and then raining hard the next. We have many staff members who have been here since the university first started. They have seen the place grow from just a couple of rooms to what it is today. It is a quiet place for the most part except when there are festivals or exams happening. The local buses stop right near the gate which is good because many people don't have their own cars. We don't have fancy glass buildings or anything too modern. It is more about being practical. Most of the offices are filled with wooden desks and stacks of paperwork. It is a place where people come to learn and do their daily work. We don't go in for much show or decoration. The focus is on the students and the classes. It is a good community of people.
