Our factory and office are located right on NH-31A in Tadong. Being up here in Sikkim, the air is a bit different, and the views are definitely better than what you’d get in a big city industrial park. We work with jewelry and precision parts, so it’s a lot of detailed, careful work that takes a good amount of patience. You can hear the traffic on the highway all day long, trucks and cars heading up towards Gangtok or down to the plains. It’s a steady hum that we’ve all gotten used to. The building itself is sturdy and built for the terrain. Inside, it’s mostly the sound of small machines and people concentrating on their tasks. We don’t go in for big advertisements or fancy displays. Most of what we do is about making sure the small things we produce are exactly the right size and shape. Our staff mostly comes from the nearby areas, so there’s a local feel to the place. We have our tea breaks together, and sometimes we talk about the weather or the road conditions on the highway. It’s a practical, hardworking atmosphere. We’ve been at this for a while, and we just focus on doing our jobs each day. There’s something satisfying about working with your hands in a place like this, surrounded by the hills and the constant movement of the NH-31A.
