Out here at 175 Santej Vadsar Road, the days usually start early before the sun gets too high. Surya Wall Care Chem Pvt. Ltd. is located right in the middle of the Santej industrial patch in Gandhinagar. It’s a dusty place because of all the trucks moving back and forth on the road outside. Our building is a large shed where we keep all the chemicals and wall care materials. There is a constant sound of machines running and the heavy thud of bags being stacked on top of each other by the workers. The air inside has that dry, chalky smell of construction materials and plaster. We wear our work clothes and don't mind getting a bit of white powder on our shoes or hands. It’s not the kind of place you’d visit for a chat, as it’s a working factory through and through. The yard out front is usually full of empty pallets and the occasional stray dog looking for some shade under the eaves. We have a small office section partitioned off, but most of the action happens on the floor where the mixing and packing get done. The road to Vadsar is always busy with other industrial traffic, so there’s a lot of noise from the big engines passing by. We just focus on the batches we have to finish for the day, making sure the bags are sealed and ready to go out to the sites where they are needed.
