Out here in the GIDC area of Vatva, things are always moving. We are located at Plot No 10 in Phase 1, which is right behind Prashant Engg. It’s a pretty typical industrial spot with lots of trucks coming and going. The air smells like metal and oil most days. Inside Smit Medimed, we handle a lot of medical related items. It’s different from the heavy engineering shops around us but still just as busy. The floor is usually covered in boxes waiting to be moved. We have a few people working the assembly and others just keeping track of where everything is supposed to go. It gets really humid in Vatva during the monsoon and the roof sometimes makes a lot of noise when it rains. We don't have a big fancy office, just a desk with a lot of papers on it and a phone that rings quite a bit. Lunch is usually a quick thing we do together in the small area near the back. We see the same faces every day from the other units on this street. It’s just how life is in the GIDC. You come in early, do the work, and hope the traffic isn’t too bad when it’s time to go home. We’ve been at this plot for a while now and know the neighbors pretty well. There is always something that needs fixing or a box that needs packing.
