You can find us at B 50 in the GIDC Electronics Estate. It’s a busy corner of the estate with plenty of trucks moving in and out all day. Our shop is filled with rolls of wire, stacks of switchboards, and boxes of light fittings that seem to reach the ceiling. It’s a bit of a maze inside, but we know exactly where everything is hidden. When someone comes in asking for a specific fuse, we don’t have to look at a computer; we just know it’s in the third box on the left shelf. S Kumar Electricals is run by me and my brother, and we’ve been doing it since we were much younger. We’ve seen the types of bulbs change from the old yellow ones to the new LEDs, but the work is still pretty much the same. We spend a lot of time on the phone with contractors who are looking for bulk supplies for their building sites. It’s a lot of counting and double-checking quantities. The desk is always covered in scraps of paper with measurements and price quotes scribbled on them. We don’t have a fancy website or anything like that. Most of our people find us by word of mouth or by just driving through the estate and seeing our sign. It’s a steady life, and we like the routine of opening up early and closing when the sun goes down.
