Gopika Creations

Gopika Creations is situated at 12-C in Shilpgram I, which is part of Taluka Jaspur. It is a bit away from the main city buzz, which is nice because it’s a lot quieter out here. The workshop is where we spend the bulk of our time, surrounded by rolls of material and various tools spread out on the long tables. We have a few big windows that let in the morning light, which is the time we usually get the most done. The floor is usually covered in thread and scraps of fabric that we sweep up at the end of every day. In Jaspur, the weather can get quite dusty, so we have to keep everything covered with plastic sheets when we aren't using it. We have a small team of local people who come in to help with the packing and the assembly. The building itself is simple, with white walls and a tin roof that makes a lot of noise when it rains. We don't have a fancy showroom, so most people who visit just see the actual work happening right in front of them. There is a small porch out front where we sit for a few minutes in the evening before heading home. It is a very hands-on kind of place where something is always being measured, cut, or put together. We just try to keep up with the orders and finish everything.
