Jayram Timber Industries

Jayram Timber Industries is down in Padna Village, right near the Vakola Bridge. You can usually smell the wood before you even see the gate. We have piles of timber stacked up everywhere, and there is sawdust on just about every surface. It’s a working yard, so it’s not particularly pretty or tidy. The Vakola Bridge area is always busy with traffic, and we get a lot of noise from the road, but we don't mind it much. We spend our days moving heavy logs and cutting things down to size. The machinery we use is old but it works fine as long as we keep it oiled. Most of the guys working here have been with us for years, so we’ve become a bit of a family. We don't have a website or anything like that; we just do our work and talk to the people who come into the yard. Sometimes the rain makes the ground all muddy and it’s a pain to move the trucks around, but that’s just part of life in Padna Village. We keep a pot of tea going in the small shack we use as an office. It’s a simple life of hard physical work and the smell of fresh-cut wood. We’ve been here a long time and we like the rhythm of the place despite the constant dust.
