Om Furniture

Gopalpuri is a busy spot in Gandhidham, and that’s where we have our place. We are at Plot No. 28, specifically in Ward 11b-f. At Om Furniture, there’s always the smell of wood and some sawdust in the air. It’s not a showroom where you have to take your shoes off. It’s a real workshop. We have different pieces of wood leaning against the walls and tools scattered on the benches. We make things that people actually use in their houses. Sometimes it’s a simple stool or a cupboard. The Kachchh weather is dry, so the wood stays good. We don’t have a lot of fancy lights, just some overhead bulbs so we can see what we are cutting. Neighbors stop by to chat or ask if we can fix a broken chair leg. We don’t mind. It’s a local place. The floor is never really clean because as soon as we sweep, we start cutting again. We work at our own pace. Some days are very busy with big orders, and other days we just tidy up the place. It’s a decent way to earn a living. We’ve been in this ward for a long time. People know us by the sound of the saws running in the afternoon. We drink our tea outside when the breeze picks up. The gate is a bit rusty, but it still locks tight. We keep our inventory of teak and plywood near the back wall.
