Nakoda Polymers

Out here at 66 G I D C in Gandhidham, the air is always a bit heavy with the smell of industry. We are right opposite Gail India, so it’s easy to find us if you’re driving through Mithi Rohar. At Nakoda Polymers, we spend our days dealing with raw materials and those big bags of plastic granules. The floor is usually covered in some kind of dust from the processing, and the machines make a constant humming sound that you just get used to after a week of working here. It gets really hot in Kachchh during the summer months, so we keep the big shutters open to let whatever breeze we can get inside. We have trucks coming in and going out at all hours, which makes the yard quite messy with tire tracks and bits of packing material. It’s a lot of physical work, moving stuff around and making sure the orders are packed right. We don’t have a fancy office with air conditioning; it’s mostly just desks covered in paperwork and a few old chairs for when we take a break. Our neighbor’s dogs sometimes wander in looking for shade, and we usually have a water bowl out for them near the gate. It’s just a regular workplace where we keep our heads down and get through the list of things that need to be done before the sun goes down. Sometimes we stay late when a shipment is delayed, just sitting around talking while we wait for the driver.
