Operating out of Sector 4 in the Kandla Special Economic Zone, our company, U S Clothing (india) Pvt. Ltd., is a big part of our lives. We are situated on Plots 274 to 281, which covers a good amount of ground. Gandhidham is a unique place to work because of the industrial atmosphere and the way the sun hits the salt flats nearby. Our daily routine involves a lot of coordination because when you are working on this many plots, you spend a lot of time walking between sections. The workspace is filled with the sound of industrial sewing machines and the rustle of plastic packaging. It isn't a place for quiet thinking; it’s a place for doing. We have large teams of people who handle different parts of the clothing process, from the first cut to the final stitch. The office part of the building is just as busy, with people constantly tracking shipments and talking to the port authorities. It gets very hot in Kachchh during the middle of the year, so we rely on the overhead fans a lot. We don't really do much in the way of fancy stuff; we just focus on the clothes and the deadlines. Lunch breaks are short, and the tea is always served hot regardless of how warm it is outside. It’s a tough, honest environment where everyone knows what they need to do to keep the production lines moving.
