About Chandan Steel Works – Engineering in Gandhidham
We have been running Chandan Steel Works out of Plot No. 149 in the G I D C area of Gandhidham-Kachchh for a good many years now. Working with steel is what we do every single day, and it is usually pretty loud around here once the machines get going. The office isn't much to look at because we spend most of our time out on the shop floor. Sometimes the dust from the yard gets inside and settles on the desks, but that is just how it goes in this part of Gandhidham. My father was the one who started this whole thing, and now I handle the daily bits and pieces with a small crew. We mostly deal with local orders, and people from all over the Kachchh region come by to check on their stuff. It is a busy place, especially in the mornings when the trucks arrive. We don't have any fancy sofas for visitors, just a few plastic chairs and a wooden desk that is always covered in papers and old blueprints. The heat in the workshop can get a bit much during the summer months, so we drink a lot of tea and take breaks when we can. We just try to get the steel cut and welded like it is supposed to be done. It is not a big corporate setup, just a local yard where real people work hard. We have seen the G I D C change a lot, but our spot stays the same.
