At Aakansha Marble, we’ve set up shop in the MDA Colony area of Jyotiba Phule Nagar. We’re quite close to Hotel Vasant, so it’s easy for people to give directions to their drivers when they want to visit us. The neighborhood is growing quite a bit these days with new houses going up everywhere you look. I started this business because I saw a need for a local place where people could see the stone before they bought it. Catalogues never tell the whole story of the stone's texture. Our yard is filled with different slabs that we’ve brought in from various places around the region. It’s dusty work and can be quite tiring in the summer heat, but it keeps us busy. We mostly have residents from the colony coming in, asking about prices and what would look good in a kitchen or on a porch. I try to give them straight answers based on what I’ve seen work for others over the years. We don’t have a marketing department or anything like that. It’s just me and a couple of workers who handle the cutting and the heavy moving. Sometimes the inventory gets a little low if the transport trucks are delayed on the road, but we usually have enough to keep things moving along. We aren't trying to be the biggest marble dealers around, just a reliable place where you can get what you need for your house. It’s a local operation and we try to be straight with our neighbors about the stock we have.
