Jayanna Transport Services

Out here in Kakulavaram village, things move a bit slower than in the city. We run Jayanna Transport Services from house 4-100. It’s right in the Gadwal Mandal. We have a couple of trucks and we spend most of our time worrying about diesel prices and tires. The roads around Jogulamba Gadwal can be pretty rough especially after the monsoon. We haul whatever needs moving—crops, stones, or building materials. My phone is always ringing with someone asking where the driver is. Most of the drivers are from the village here so we know their families. It’s a lot of long nights and early mornings. You have to be okay with being tired in this business. We do the maintenance ourselves mostly, right there in the yard. Our office is just a corner of the house with a wooden desk and a calendar. We don't have any fancy tracking software. We just call the drivers and ask them where they are. It’s a tough way to make a living but it’s what we’ve always done. The dust from the road gets into everything. We know every pothole between here and the main highway. We just keep the trucks moving and try to make sure everything gets there in one piece. That is the job and we do it as best we can.
