Being located in Dr. Zakir Hussain Colony puts us in a busy spot, especially being right across from the mosque. It’s a landmark everyone knows, so people don’t usually have trouble finding us near Mulgund Naka. The day usually starts with the sound of the morning prayers and then the traffic starts picking up. We deal with earth moving equipment, which means there is always a bit of grease and heavy metal laying around the place. It’s not a clean job, but it’s what we do. The shop is simple and we don’t spend much on decorating or anything like that because the machines take up all the space. Most of our visitors are local contractors or guys who drive these big rigs for a living. They come in with dirt on their boots and stories about the latest job site. We offer them a seat if there’s one clear and talk about what parts they are looking for. Sometimes we just sit and wait for the delivery trucks to show up, which can take forever if the traffic near the Naka is bad. It gets hot in the afternoons, so we keep the fans running high. We’ve been at this for a while and we know the regulars by name now. It’s a quiet kind of busy, if that makes sense. No one is in a huge rush unless a machine is broken down on a site nearby.
