T.C. Rice & Gen. Mills

If you go down Talwandi Road in Ferozepur, you will find T.C. Rice & Gen. Mills. It’s a large enough place with plenty of space for the grain to be moved around. Ferozepur gets quite hot in the summer months, so we try to get most of the heavy lifting done early in the day. The mill handles rice and other general milling work that needs doing. There is always a layer of dust on everything, but we try to keep it as tidy as possible given the work. The road outside is usually busy with tractors and carts bringing stuff in. We don't have a lot of visitors who aren't here for work. It’s mostly just the farmers and the drivers. The machinery makes a steady hum that you get used to after a while. It’s a regular part of life on this side of town. We have a small crew and everyone knows their job. We don't do much talking while the machines are going because you can't hear anything anyway. When it’s time for a break, we sit in the shade and watch the traffic go by on Talwandi Road. It's honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until late. We just do what we do and try to keep the mill running steady. No big secrets to it, just keeping up with the seasonal rush when the harvest comes in and the bags start piling up high.
