Janta Tyre

Janta Tyre is right on Malout Road, so we get a lot of people stopping in who are just passing through. It’s a dusty place because of all the traffic, but that’s the nature of being on a main road. We spend our days dealing with rubber, air pressure, and wheels. It’s physical work, especially when you’re dealing with the bigger truck tyres that weigh a ton. We have the jack and the spanners going from morning until the sun goes down. Sometimes we are just patching a small puncture for a guy on a cycle, and other times we are swapping out a whole set for a transport driver. The floor is always black from the tyre marks and there are stacks of old casings out the back. We don't have a waiting room with fancy chairs; people usually just stand around or sit on a bench while we finish up. It’s a simple business. We see a lot of different faces every day. Malout Road is always busy, so there is never a quiet moment for long. When it rains, the mud gets everywhere, which makes the job a bit messier, but we just keep going. We’ve been doing this long enough that we can tell what’s wrong with a tyre just by looking at it. Most of our work is about getting people back on the road so they can get to wherever they're heading. It's nothing special, just a honest day's work for the local community here.
