Shakti Foundation

Our place is over at No. 29- B in Neha Enclave. It's inside Shakti Bhawan on Station Road, right here in Shikohabad. It’s a quiet enough area compared to the main market, which is nice when you’re trying to get things organized. Shakti Foundation has been operating out of this building for some time. The stairs up to the office are a bit steep, so we tell everyone to watch their step. Inside, it’s mostly just desks and piles of paperwork that seem to never go away. We spend a lot of time talking on the phone or meeting people who come in from the nearby villages. Station Road gets quite busy during the train times, so you can hear the whistles and the general commotion from the window. We have a small tea kettle in the corner because that’s how we get through the long afternoons. It isn't a modern glass building or anything like that. It feels more like a lived-in space where actual work happens every day. Sometimes the ceiling fan makes a clicking noise, but we’re used to it. We keep track of everything in big ledgers and on the old computer. People know where to find us if they need help with something. Neha Enclave is easy to spot once you get off the main road. We’re just regular people trying to do what we can from this small office in Shikohabad and we don't plan on moving.
