Our place is at A-26 in the Industrial Area. It’s not a fancy office, just a solid workshop where we handle glass all day long. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is the sound of the cutting wheels and the smell of the oil used on the glass edges. We’ve been here for a good while now. The floors are concrete and usually covered in a bit of fine dust that we try to sweep up every evening. Glass is a temperamental material. If you handle it wrong, it breaks, and you have to start all over. We spend most of our time measuring, cutting, and loading sheets onto the back of trucks. It’s heavy work and keeps us on our feet. We have a small table in the corner where we keep our logbooks and a kettle for tea. The industrial area is busy and loud, especially in the afternoons when the big lorries are moving through. We don’t bother with fancy decorations or mission statements. We just focus on getting the dimensions right so the pieces fit when they get to where they’re going. Sometimes the heat in the summer makes the workshop pretty uncomfortable, but we just keep the fans going and get through the orders. Most of the guys here have been doing this for years, so we have a rhythm. It’s just a regular local business doing what needs to be done every day.
