Raman Sugar Co.

Down here in Sarafa Bazar, things are always moving. We are Raman Sugar Co. and we have been on the Main Road in Fazilka for quite some time now. Sugar is what we handle every single day. You can actually smell it in the air when the bags are being moved around the shop. The bazar is a busy place, very narrow and full of people and scooters. We spend a lot of our time making sure the stock levels are right. Bags of sugar come in on trucks and they go out to the local shops nearby. It is not a complicated business, but it stays steady throughout the year. We have a small space, so we have to be very careful how we stack everything so it does not fall over. My father started this and now we just keep it going as best as we can. There is no big neon sign or anything, just the name on the wall and the bags. Fazilka is a good place for this kind of trade. We know most of the other shopkeepers around here. Sometimes we sit out front when it is quiet, but that does not happen very often. Usually, someone is asking about the current prices or when the next delivery is coming. We do not use computers much, just the old ledgers. It feels more real that way. The floor is always a bit sticky, no matter how much we sweep it. That is just part of being in the sugar business. We do not try to be anything we are not. We just sell sugar to the people who need it in the district. It has been our life for years and we are used to the rhythm of the market.
