Mithan Lal Kalra Rice & General Mills

We operate Mithan Lal Kalra Rice & General Mills over on Jalalabad Road. It’s been in the family for a long time. The mill is a loud place, especially during the harvest season when the tractors are lining up outside. We process a lot of rice for the local farmers. The air is always full of that specific smell of rice husks. We also do some general milling work when there’s a demand for it. The office is just a small room with some old wooden chairs and a lot of ledgers. We don’t use any fancy software to track things. It’s all done by hand in those big books. We’ve seen the road change a lot over the years, but the mill stays pretty much the same. It’s a lot of physical labor, moving heavy sacks and making sure the hullers are set right. We don't have a "philosophy" or anything like that. We just try to give the farmers a fair deal and get the rice ready for market. Sometimes the machines break down in the middle of a busy shift, and we have to scramble to fix them. It’s just how it goes in this business. We aren't looking to be famous. We just want to be the reliable mill on Jalalabad Road that people can trust. It’s a hard way to make a living, but it’s what we do and we like being part of the community here.
