Maa Chintpurni Rice Mills

Out here in Village Ghale, right on Talwandi Road, things move at a steady pace. Maa Chintpurni Rice Mills has been part of this landscape for a good while now. Most days start early, before the sun really gets a chance to heat up the tin roofs of the sheds. You can hear the machinery humming from a distance once everything gets going. It is loud and dusty, but that is just how a mill works. The trucks come and go along the road, kicking up dirt as they pull in. We spend a lot of time just keeping up with the harvest cycles. When the season is busy, there is hardly a quiet moment from morning until late at night. Sometimes the power goes out and everything stops for a bit, which gives everyone a chance to sit in the shade and have some tea. It is not fancy work, just a lot of bags moving around and making sure the grains are sorted. The air always smells a bit like dry husks and warm metal. People around here know where we are because of the big gates. We just keep our heads down and do the work that needs doing. Sometimes the rain makes the yard a bit of a mess, but we manage. It is a simple life here at the mill, watching the seasons change and the grain piles grow and shrink as the months go by.
